Luncheon with Hugh Mackay

Over the past 30 years, Australian society has been reshaped by a series of revolutionary changes – social, cultural, economic and technological. Everything from the role of women and the institution of marriage to the structure of the workforce and the shrinking of our households has raised questions about the kind of society we are becoming. While we are an increasingly dynamic, diverse and affluent society, we have paid a high price in our record levels of both anxiety and debt.

Hugh Mackay is a psychologist, social researcher and novelist who has made a lifelong study of the attitudes and behaviour of Australians. He is the author of twelve books, including five bestsellers. The second edition of Advance Australia…Where? was published in 2008, and his fifth novel, Ways of Escape, came out last year. His latest non-fiction book, What makes us tick? will be published in October.
