CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

To finish off the year we will be having our annual Christmas party at Tertini Wines. Bring your partner and come for drinks and nibbles. As a special gift the evening will be free for our members; guests and partners are $10 per person, including drinks. 

We will be distributing our annual Christmas newsletter and will have lots of lucky door prizes and gifts. We will also be making a special presentation to our member, Tracey Besters, for her recent win of our inaugural Business Woman of the Year award.

A LUNCHEON WITH THE UNITED STATES CONSUL GENERAL JUDITH FERGIN

We heard from one of America's senior diplomats discuss her experience representing the United States around the world.  U.S. Consul General Judith Fergin served in Germany, South Africa, Liberia, Indonesia, Russia, Singapore, Canberra, and Washington, D.C. before she arrived in Sydney two years ago. 

A specialist in economic policy, she will share the excitement of her work as economic section chief in Jakarta during the Asian financial crisis, economic counselor in Canberra as we wrapped up negotiations on the U.S.-Australia Free Trade Agreement, and representative to New South Wales and Queensland of the Obama Administration. 

She will compare the challenges of managing an office with over one hundred employees representing seven U.S. federal government agencies with managing moves across cultures with two teenagers.

LAUNCH OF BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR  &  NEW TOURISM SOUTHERN HIGHLANDS DVD

On the morning we will be launching the new award category for the 2009 Business Awards for Excellence- the Businesswoman of the Year award, sponsored by the Business Women's Network. Simon Green, Group Manager of the Southern Highland News/ Highlands Post will speak about the history of the awards and the details of the new Businesswoman of the Year award, an initiative of the BWN. 

Following Simon's presentation we will have the opportunity to view the new Southern Highlands Tourism DVD, newly launched recently. Steve Rosa, the Executive Manager of Tourism Southern Highlands will speak about the development of the DVD and the state of tourism in the Southern Highlands, after which we will view the DVD. If you haven't seen it yet it is an amazing production - you will be very impressed.

PERRIE CROWSHAW - THE ROAD AHEAD FOR SMALL BUSINESS

Perrie Crowshaw will address the topic of the road ahead for small business, giving some advice and a glimpse into the near future for small business in light of the current global financial crisis. Perrie has been a writer, publisher and businesswoman for nearly 25 years.

She juggles two businesses: a booking service for South Coast Holidays and the publishing group Seven Mile Press. She has held senior editorial positions at the Financial Times, The Australian and the Money Section of the Sydney Morning Herald. Her book Money Matters: Financial Management for Women was published in 1988.

SEAN HAYLEN   Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk

Come and hear about the development of one of the Highland's newest attractions, the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk. In 2005 Sean Haylan was the general manager of the Otway Fly Treetop Walk in Victoria, serving on the Otway Tourism Board there. He then oversaw the opening of the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk in Robertson and is currently responsible for the day to day operations and strategic management there.

He will tell us about how and why his company decided to create the new attraction in the Southern Highlands, and will tell us about their achievements to date since opening in Robertson in March 2008
