Kirstine McKay

The host and panelist for the BWN International Women’s Day Luncheon will be international award winning journalist Kirstine McKay. Kirstine has over 12 years experience as a television reporter and producer for Channel Nine, working on the Sunday Program and A Current Affair. She writes, presents and acts for individuals and organisations across many disciplines, and with her husband raises chickens, veggies and 3 young boys. Kirstine is passionate about our natural environment and leads a sustainable lifestyle that lives lightly on the planet here in the beautiful Southern Highlands. In celebration of International Women’s Day and this year’s theme “Better the Balance. Better the World”, Kirstine will be conducting live interviews with 3 inspirational women, sharing their stories and asking for advice on how we can all play a positive role in forging a more gender inclusive working world.

Sonia Di Mezza

Sonia is a human rights lawyer, with a Master’s degree in International Law, majoring in human rights law. She has over 20 years of professional work experience in the field of human rights in Australia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Sudan and India. She currently works as the Deputy CEO for an NGO in Canberra, Australia, advocating for the human rights of people with disabilities, older people and people with mental health issues.  She sits on the board of directors of two international human rights NGOs.

Val Southam

Val Southam has been in the waste, recycling and environment industry for nearly 20 years. She has had experience in managing recycling reprocessing businesses, marketing of recycled products as well as managing the environmental affairs portfolio for several major Australian Corporates such as Smorgon and Southcorp. Val was a former President of the Australian Council of Recyclers, an interim member of the Packaging Covenant Council and served 8 years on the board of the Beverage Industry Environment Council. In June 2001 Val was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Office of the Waste Management Association of Australia.  Val is a member of the board of KAB National Association and of KAB NSW
