November Breakfast: Leaning Out – New Adventures in Enterprise with Dr Peta Seaton AM
Peta started her business life as a check-out chick, TV extra and house cleaner while at University and after a stint in LA with a TV producer, started her own music video business in Sydney in Paul Keating’s recession and the dawn of the MTV age. She was head of TV for Clemenger Advertising (where she perfected the ‘pizza pull’!) and while being savaged by militant unions on the Australia’s Wonderland construction site while making their launch ads, she got interested in choice, freedom and enterprise. She joined Nick Greiner’s Opposition team and worked with him as Premier – got really interested in politics and policy (how to fix stuff and make it better), so now married and 7 months pregnant stood for Parliament, serving as Member for Southern Highlands for 11 years until 2007, including becoming NSW’s first female Shadow Treasurer.
Peta is a leader in public policy and strategy, and served as Director of Strategic Priorities for Premier Barry O’Farrell. She consults to CEOs, and is a non-executive director including Chair of Australian Hearing, Director (Assoc) of BDCU Alliance Bank, Director of the Menzies Research Centre, and the Near Eastern Archaeology Foundation. She continues to work with the University of Sydney archaeological expedition to Pella in Jordan.
Peta and Lachlan live at Ashton Park, Moss Vale, where she is developing enterprises based on their farm, its equestrian history, fresh produce and reviving artisanal and traditional techniques.
